It’s never a bad night when Black Stone Cherry comes to town. These guys are the perennial road warriors. They are constantly out there bringing some rock and roll soul to the masses. And they just keep getting better and better. This tour has been a little rough because like many of the other bands out there, the weather has wreaked some havoc and cancelled a few dates. Luckily that was not the case at the Whiskey Roadhouse in Council Bluffs. It was a great line-up for the night. Ayron Jones opening, followed by Them Dirty Roses, and then Black Stone Cherry came out and tore the place down.
I’ve been lucky to cover these guys multiple times now. Black Stone Cherry are the consummate professionals. You know that you are going to get 110% from them every night. And I challenge you to find anyone that has more energy than guitarist Ben Wells on stage. This guy is non-stop movement, Lead vocalist/guitarist sounds as good as ever. And the songs keep getting better too. The played two new tracks on this night, Celebrate and Neon Eyes. Both went over very well with the crowd. The new songs are from a forthcoming EP that will be released in March, Celebrate being the title track.
A highlight for me was when Black Stone Cherry played the Tracy Chapman cover of Give Me One More Reason. They had the crowd singing along with that one and it sounded amazing. The set finished with three staples that are now classics. White Trash Millionaire, Blame It On The Boom Boom, and Lonely Train. All three songs had the crowd singing the lyrics word for word. A perfect end to a great night. I tell everyone I know that this a show they should not miss. I’ve never heard of anyone leave a show and be disappointed by what the heard and saw. If you haven’t ever seen them, now is the time. You will thank me later.
