It was a great night at the Bourbon Theater! Above Snakes started the night opening up for Wednesday 13. Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, Above Snakes is a pretty new band. They have been releasing music since 2020, but have yet to release a full album. Their latest release is the single, Fallen Angel. Which, is an impressive track, definitely a high point for me during the set.
Above Snakes mix some hard rock with a little bit of rap thrown in here and there. As a matter of fact they even have a nod to Run DMC in the middle of their set by doing a medley that includes Tricky by the legendary rap group. Which I absolutely loved; it was a great twist to the show. And the crowd loved it too, they ate it up.
Above Snakes is made up of Johnny Skulls on lead vocals, Dax Dabs on guitar, and Bamm Bamm Lamm on drums. I was not able to find the name of the bass player. But as a unit, these guys mesh very well together. They have great chemistry and they all four love to play loud. Which is a quality I can get 100% behind. They had the Bourbon shaking from the opening notes. It’s always great to catch a new band. And sometimes it’s mixed bag for sure.
This was one of those times that I was definitely happy I showed up early. These guys were worth the time to get there to see. I look forward to seeing how these guys grow over the next few years. I would love to hear a whole album for them. Until then, I will enjoy the EP and singles they have released to this point. I’m not a huge rap fan, but when mixed with some hard rock, I can get behind it. These guys are definitely worth checking out. I suggest you give them a shot!
