Static-X was part two of a wild night at The Steelhouse in Omaha on this night. Sandwiched in between Vended and headliners Mudvayne. If the crowd thought they were going to have a chance to catch their breath before Mudvayne took the stage, they were sadly mistaken. From the very beginning the theatrics and music took control and had The Steelhouse crowd headbanging and crowd surfing.
Lead vocalist Xero, in mask, resembling the late Wayne Static, had the crowd up and moving. He has a strong voice that is perfect foe the loud riffs and strong grooves the band is spilling out through the set. The mask definitely sets a tone for the show. I feel like it is a great tribute to Wayne and the past, and a sign of respect for that era. It’s a unique thing they are doing and some may not fully understand the concept, but I love it. I’ve always been into theatrical bands and having something different to present to the fans. Xero’s beaming red eyes seemingly looking right through you. It was a great set of old and new songs. Highlights for me included the hits Terminator, Love Dump, the classic I’m With Stupid, and set closer Push It. I feel like the set went way too fast and wished they had a few more songs to play.
Between appearances of various monsters and characters on stage, very Alice Cooper-esque type of appearances. Reminding of the giant Frankenstein that graces the Alice’s stage. It’s a part of that theatrical piece that makes this show so unique. But just like any show, if the music isn’t any good then all the rest means nothing. But the music is amazing, which is the glue that holds this show together. Static-X is a regular on the touring circuit and if you can, you should see this band. They are worth the effort to see. If you like it loud with a twist of theater- then get your butt out there to see them.
