Imagine a bunch of the artists you listened to growing up coming together for a show. Luckily for Oklahoma City, we didn’t have to imagine. Bowling For Soup, 3OH!3 and Simple Plan brought the “Bigger Than You Think!” tour to the Zoo Amphitheater.
Bowling For Soup started things while the sun was still up and beating down on fans, but the band didn’t seem to be affected by the heat, delivering an energetic show nonetheless. Guitarist Rob Felicetti described their set as “grown men still singing about high school.” They also told us about their trip to the zoo that they had taken earlier that day and how they got to watch a baby elephant take a bath. In the middle of their set, they played the “Phineas and Ferb Theme Song,” a song I never would have expected to hear live. Jaret Reddick got serious and talked about the importance of mental health, touching the hearts of many. Their setlist also contained a cover of “Teenage Dirtbag” by Wheatus and they closed their performance with “1985.”

If you said you have never heard a 3OH!3 song, you’d be lying. The duo was joined on tour by Jacob Brown on guitar and Jess Bowen on drums. The four of them had enough stage presence to have the entire audience jumping up and down and raising up the band’s signature hand gesture. Surprisingly, there was a lot of beef jerky involved in their set. Nathaniel Motte fed some to Brown during his guitar solo, threw pieces into the audience, and spent a good amount of time talking about it in general. They played all of their hits, starting with “Punkbitch.” The crowd was so into it, even those in the very back of the venue could be seen jumping up and down to the beat. Bowen was more than entertaining on drums with her ripped arms, hair flipping wildly, and the smile on her face. They worked into more of their hits such as “Starstruck” and “I’m Not Your Boyfriend Baby.” Although the fans weren’t ready to see them leave, 3OH!3 ended with “Don’t Trust Me.”

The sun had set and the whole house was itching for Simple Plan to take the stage, the anticipation made the wait feel so much longer. Eventually, the lights were lowered and the venue exploded with cheers. Simple Plan opened with “I’d Do Anything” which was accompanied by confetti. I absolutely love when artists choose to use confetti, especially during the beginning of the show. This confetti was special as it had pieces that looked like broken hearts, storm clouds, and also the X eyed smiley face.
Right off the bat, the energy was through the roof. The band members had lots of big jumps and used the entire stage to perform. All of their fans were jumping as they played “Jump” before going into “Addicted.” The night felt so special when frontman Pierre Bouvier sat down at a grand piano.

Even in a triple digit level of heat, Simple Plan had fans showing up dressed up as Scooby Doo, a costume that must have multiplied their sweat for sure. When they performed the Scooby Doo Theme Song they actually brought up a bunch of the Scooby Doos on stage to dance! Then the crowd went wild when their drummer, Chuck Comeau, threw on an Oklahoma City Thunder Jersey. Bowling For Soup joined the band on stage for “I’m Just a Kid” as Bouvier took over on drums so that Comeau could go crowd surfing OKC in his Thunder jersey, a beautiful sight. The night ended with “Perfect” which is exactly how the show felt. The Zoo Amphitheater was packed and took a while to clear out, but none of these fans were in any rush to leave this amazing, fun experience.
