I have heard a lot about Giovannie and The Hired Guns these past few months, there were a lot of my friends who have seen this tour or were covering it for a different outlet. They all were telling me…wait till you see these guys…they are amazing. Even talking to people in the crowd that night, a lot of them seemed just as interested in seeing Giovannie and the Hired Guns just as much as the headliners, Black Stone Cherry.

As a matter of fact, some were there to see Giovannie and his crew exclusively. So my expectations were pretty high coming in, I mean, there’s a lot of hype around these guys. I couldn’t wait to see them and form my own opinion on them. Coming in, I knew they were from Texas, had a huge following, and played some southern rock and roll.

My first thoughts as Giovannie Yanez took the stage was that these guys send out a lot of positive vibes. Yanez is nonstop smiles on stage. He clearly enjoys his job and being up front he is having the time of his life. The band is made up of two guitarists (Jerrod Flusche and Carlos Villa), bass player(Alex Trejo), and drums (Milton Toles). The two guitar attack gives a strong rock and roll push.

At one point, Alex Trejo started playing what I thought was a tuba. I was corrected, it wasn’t a tuba, but a sousaphone. Looked and sounded like a tuba to me…but that obviously is not my area. Regardless, it’s not something you normally see during a rock and roll show. The songs performed met several different genre’s. They kept the fans on their feet for the duration of the set.

Bottom line, Giovannie and the Hired Guns lived up to the hype. Yanez’s voice is strong and keeps the crowd going. This band has earned the reputation as a great live band and after seeing the show it’s easy to see why. So much fun watching them! If you are curious about the live show but won’t get a chance to see them, check out their latest album release, it is a live album. It does a great job of capturing the vibe of this band.
