It’s always a pleasure to see Bruce Dickinson take the stage—whether fronting Iron Maiden or spearheading his own solo ventures—and Friday night at Stage AE was no exception. Performing with his new band, The Mandrake Project, Bruce delivered a powerhouse set that reminded everyone why he’s one of the most iconic and electrifying frontmen in metal history.
The Pittsburgh show was a part of Bruce’s first major solo North American tour in nearly 30 years, and fans turned out in full force. The room was packed with longtime devotees, many sporting vintage Maiden tees, all eager to witness this unique chapter in Bruce’s musical journey.
From the moment Bruce stepped on stage, it was clear he and the band were having a blast. There was a chemistry and energy that can’t be faked—this wasn’t just another gig; it felt like a celebration. Bruce’s voice was in top form, soaring with theatrical precision and commanding every moment. Whether unleashing newer tracks from The Mandrake Project or digging into his solo back catalog, his charisma filled the venue.
The band—featuring Dave Moreno (drums), Tanya O’Callaghan (bass), Mistheria (keyboards), Philip Näslund (guitar), and Chris Declercq (guitar)—was tight, dynamic, and locked in. Each brought their own flavor to the performance, giving the songs a fresh, modern edge while honoring Bruce’s signature style.
A special highlight came when Bruce, in good spirits and ever the showman, broke into a rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner”—a nod to his scheduled performance of the anthem at the Pittsburgh Steelers’ home opener the following day. The crowd erupted, fully embracing the moment with cheers.
There’s something undeniably special about seeing an artist of Bruce Dickinson’s caliber in a more intimate venue like Stage AE. It wasn’t just a concert—it was a masterclass in performance, passion, and longevity in rock and metal.
For fans in attendance, it was a night to remember. For Bruce, it was another triumphant step in a career that continues to evolve and inspire.
