Jerry Cantrell made a stop in LaVista, Nebraska at The Astro on his “I Want Blood” tour. It was a very enthusiastic crowd that greeted Mr. Cantrell and his band. Many times chanting “Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!” much to the delight of the guitarist. He even paused a couple of times with his arms raised to bask in the glory. You could tell that there were some hard core Cantrell fans there, they knew all the solo songs and obviously the Alice in Chains classics that were played.

Cantrell has a solid band in place to help him cover the old and new. He has co-lead vocalist and guitar player Greg Puciato, bassist Eliot Lorango, and drummer Roy Mayorga. All great and established musicians in their own right. Would you expect any less from one of the classic writers and guitar players of the last couple of decades? The band plowed through the setlist that was almost two and half hours long.

Jerry Cantrell included six classic Alice in Chains songs you definitely expect to hear. Songs like, Would, Man In the Box, Rain When I Die, and set closer Rooster. Solo highlights for me were songs like Vilified, Cut you In, Off the Rails, and I Want Blood. Those songs also got strong reactions from the crowd. Alice In Chains or not, Jerry Cantrell songs have a distinct sound and vibe that sets him apart. You can tell it’s a Cantrell song from the riffs and strong vocals.

This leg of the tour ended a few nights later in Kansas City. So, if you didn’t catch them this time, you will have to wait and see when he hits the road next. This was my first time of seeing Jerry as a solo artist or with Alice In Chains. Sorry I have missed him before, but definitely worth the wait.
