This was not my first time getting to see the guys in Asking Alexandria, but for whatever reason, this was my favorite. They just had an extra push of energy that I had not seen before. And don’t get me wrong, they always have energy and make sure the crowd gest their money’s worth. But on this night, I just felt it was a little bet better. This is also the first time that I covered them that lead vocalist, Danny Worsnop didn’t have his hoody and ball cap up hiding his face. All joking aside, I don’t think that made a difference in the energy level for the show. Maybe it was because it was a Tuesday night and they thought it was needed to get the crowd going on a weeknight. I’ll say this, the crowd was all in from the opening note. I think it had more to do with the band on the stage then a mid-week relief of daily life.
This was the first time I have seen Asking Alexandria as an opening act. My other times covering them, they were the headliners. So the set was a little shorter then what I am used to from these guys. Although a shorter set, it was still a tight and fast set of songs that had the crowd up and moving. Worsnop complained at one point he was struggling with his vocals because of some phlegm. Honestly, I thought he sounded great. If he did struggle, it was few in far in between when those moments happened. They opened the set with Things Could Be Different and Dark Void. It was a great start to the abbreviated set for them. Other highlights for me was Where Did It Go, and Alone In a Room.
I love watching veteran bands do their thing. Nothing pretentious, just coming out and giving the best show possible. And Asking Alexandria is one of the best at doing just that. Full effort and energy every time they hit the stage. They are quickly becoming one of my favorite live bands.
