Zakk Sabbath packed the Bourbon Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska on November 11th. It was one of the biggest crowds I have seen at the venue in a while. I don’t know if it was sold out or not, but it was certainly close if it wasn’t. Zakk Wylde has reached legend status and has a great crowd wherever he plays. And Lincoln has proved that they will support him any time he comes to town, whether he’s with the Black Label Society or Zakk Sabbath.

There were two great opening acts, Dark Chapel and Bonfire. Bonfire is an AC/DC tribute band that only plays Bon Scott era tunes. But there was no secret to who the favorite of the night was. From the second Zakk took the stage, the crowd was up and moving. And they were loud! Fists thrusting in the air at the top of their lungs, for the whole set.

Zakk Sabbath’s current Sabbath touring line up is made up of Zakk Wylde on guitars and vocals, John “JD” Deservio on bass, and Jeff Fab on drums. The keep it simple, guitar-bass-drums. Nothing more, nothing less. The set list varied with some bigger hits and some deep cuts you may not expect. I think it is great that Zakk has the freedom to play exactly what he wants. Running through songs the opener Supernaut, and then songs like Tomorrow’s Dream, Wicked World, and Fairies Wear Boots. A little something for all types of Sabbath fans, from the hardcore to the casual. Of course, the set ended with N.I.B. and War Pigs. Those both had the Bourbon Theatre erupting.

The bottom line is this- Zakk Sabbath is amazing. They play with passion and skill. Zakk pours all he has into the show. And that is more than worth the price of admission. I’ve been lucky to see him a few times now and I can say I have never left a show disappointed. And to hear these songs played live, amazing. These songs deserve to be played live.
