Tom Keifer and his band were in Wichita, Kansas on July 9th at The Cotillion. They did as the normally do where they meet at center stage and have a moment as a band, circled up. I’m not sure what is said or prayed at that time, but when the circle breaks, it is an all out assault. They are like a freight train rolling out of control down the tracks.
Tom Keifer doesn’t talk a whole lot to the crowd, so it’s song after song, hit after hit. There are a couple of ballads thrown in that allow you to come up for air. What would a Tom Keifer show be without “Don’t Know What You Got Til It’s Gone” being played? The setlist is largely songs from Cinderella, but Tom does mix in a couple of his solo songs and a Rolling Stones cover of Tumbling Dice, which sounded amazing and went over with the crowd very well.
Tom Keifer still sounds amazing, I have been lucky enough to cover him a few times over the past few years, and his voice is as strong as ever. He doesn’t seem to age. He has an amazing band backing him up and the energy he brings to the stage is unmatched. I grew up listening to Cinderella. Loved their debut album from day one and Long Cold Winter is still a favorite that I listen to often. To be able to see Tom Keifer now and hear these songs live still, well…is pretty awesome.
I know some folks want Cinderalla to get back together and do a tour. With the passing of Jeff Labar, I know that makes it more difficult. I’m not sure at this point if it will ever happen, or if it is needed. I feel like if you see Tom with this band, you might question if it is necessary at all. Don’t get me wrong, if it happens, I will for sure be there. I am as nostalgic as the next guy. But for now, I’ll take Tom Keifer any way I can get him, and this version, is pretty damn good.
