I know there is a debate about the legitimacy of Foreigner of being a “tribute” band of sorts. But I’m not even going down that road. Many of the members of the band have severed many years performing and in some cases, decades. I feel like Foreigner is a little different too in that there is still a vested interest in original members in how what happens in this version. And let’s get this straight right now, these guys are amazing. They may not be the originals, but they do justice to the legacy of the band for sure.
And if you are wanting to see them in this current configuration, you should go see them now. Current vocalist, Kelly Hansen is stepping down after this summer’s tour. Kelly is amazing and one of the reasons I wanted to cover this show. I had to see and hear him sing these songs one more time. He has been the vocalist for 20 years. And is, in my opinion, one of the best frontmen out there. As a photographer, you love a guy like Kelly out front. He definitely makes sure you get some good shots.
Don’t fret though, replacing Kelly on vocals after this tour will be Luis Maldonado, who has been with the group since 2021. He is an exceptional vocalist and will ensure that the Foreigner brand will be in good hands for many more years to come.
As for the show itself, amazing. As always. These guys can play and perform these songs to perfection. And that’s just it, there isn’t a bad song in the set. All classics. So many great songs that you know by heart. It was a great night of nostalgia and saying goodbye to a guy that deserves a big send off. I’m glad I made the effort to see this show and Kelly one more time. I wish him well in his retirement and look forward to what’s next for the band. They already have big plans for a tour and celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Foreigner 4 album, that includes original singer making some appearances. Foreigner doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
