You can’t help to get a little nostalgic when a band like Faster Pussycat comes to town. I can remember seeing their first video on MTV, Don’t Change That Song. I then bought their debut album and played it over and over again. Of course, back then it was a cassette not an album or CD. While the band that graced the stage at the Bourbon Theatre on this night is far from the original band that debuted back in 1987, they still have founder Taime Downe as the lead vocalist. And he sounds just as good as he ever has leading this group.
The rest of the group is now made up of Danny Nordahl on bass, Chad Stewart on drums, Kieran Robertson on guitar, and last and certainly not least is Sam “Bam” Kolton on lead guitar. Sam has become one of my favorite touring guitar players, and one of the hardest working guys in the business. He also tours with Dorothy, Budderside, Crossbone Skully, and The Throbs. His presence on stage is key to the success of the current version of Faster Pussycat.
Faster Pussycat as a whole is fun to watch, lots of energy and they clearly enjoy playing together. Lots of smiles and interacting with the crowd. The set list was chocked full of the classics, Don’t Change That Song, Slip of the Tongue, House of Pain, and Bathroom Wall to name a few. Throw in a few new tracks, and it turns into a great night of sleaze rock. It’s great to see Faster Pussycat out and about touring. There have been recent hardships and then the obvious time factor involved. Taime sounds awesome and the band is tight. Here’s to hoping they have several years left to rock and roll. Catch them while you can!
