Omaha’s Steelhouse was host to the 2023 BabyKlok Tour.  The tour, consisting of Jason Richardson opening the show for co-headliners Deathklok and Baby Metal, has sold out nearly all its US dates, to include the Omaha show.  Steelhouse was the 19th stop of the North American dates, which was part of a worldwide tour of just under 90 shows.

Jason Richardson

Jason Richardson started the BabyKlok Tour with blistering, melodic guitar work.  This solo instrumentalist engrossed the crowd with an incredible performance worthy of guitar greats.  You may know his name from the work he has done with bands like “Born of Osiris” or “All That Remains.”  He played to backing tracks and was the lone performer on the stage, yet kept the crown engaged throughout his entire set.  One notable song was “Retrograde” which featured the vocal tracks of Periphery’s Spencer Sotelo.  He ended his set, referencing songs that cross multiple genres, then went into “Ho’s Down” an original compromised of rock, jazz, and country genres, truly showcasing this guitarist’s abilities.

Dethklok

Next up for the BabyKlok Tour was co-headliner Deathklok.  The show started on the massive screen with a clip reminiscent of the TV cartoon, Metalocalypse, with members of the military warning of the Deathklok threat and how they can use the fans to take Deathklok down. There was the shameless merch plug, and finally ending with a plea to the fans, from the Church of the Black Klok.  The show centered around the videos, but the music, performed live by Deathklok, was played in sync with the screen.  Although the show was centered around the video screen, with no spotlights on the band itself, the audience was captivated, on their feet, and cheering through the entire set.  It was a unique experience, and the fans ate it up!

Baby Metal

Ending the evening of the BabyKlok Tour, Baby Metal took the stage. The show started with a video to entice the crowd and broke into the singers taking the stage and engaging the audience with chanting and back drops that made for an amazing visual extravaganza.  The choreography of the singers, known as Su-metal, Moametal and Momometal, was the highlight of the show.  The visuals, choreography together with the heavy rhythms and top-notch musicianship of the backing band, known as Kami Band, made for an amazing show and an evening that kept the crowd wanting more.  It is no wonder that so many of the U.S. shows have sold out.
