Shinedown
On July 12 th at Viaero Arena in Kearney, NE Shinedown played to a very enthusiastic crowd. Not quite sold out, but pretty close. Which, for a Tuesday night in a smaller market was pretty good. You would have never guessed it was a smaller market based on the show Shinedown put on. Full on, all out, assault with 15 foot high towers of fire and a ton more pyro that kept the Viaero Arena rocking.
The only thing missing was Eric Bass on bass, who was home nursing a sore back. Filling in for him was Josh Sturm. Josh did a great job filling in for Mr. Bass. Shinedown is always no hold barred pedal to the metal, the passion they have the music they perform and the people they perform for, is unrivaled. Brent Smith is a one of a kind front man in my opinion. From watching him perform, you get the feeling that he cares deeply for the fans that have come to watch. At one point on this night, there was some issues that had security repeatedly over to the front of stage left. Eventually, Brent stops the show, to address the issue. It was not punitive, but wanted to make sure that those that were there to have a good time where taken care of. It was a classy move on his part.
Shinedown has released their acclaimed new studio album Planet Zero available now!!! Led by tracks like current single “Daylight” and title track “Planet Zero,” the album’s searing social commentary boldly confronts the consequences of the pervasive divisiveness in our society while offering a restorative path forward through empathy and open conversation. On songs like “No Sleep Tonight, “The Saints of Violence and Innuendo,” and “Sure Is Fun,” Shinedown is taking on the societal forces that keep us divided, including cancel culture, the toxicity between those of differing ideologies, the need for honesty in our public discourse, and the corrosive effects of social media on our ability to have a healthy dialogue with one another. Planet Zero’s ultimate message of perseverance, triumph, and human connection shines through on tracks like “A Symptom of Being Human, “Hope,” and the soaring and poignant anthem “Daylight.” The single reminds us that we are never alone and reflects on the importance of empathy and the relationships in our lives that help get us through to the next day.
The set list consisted of hits from the first sex albums with 3 new songs from the recently released Planet Zero album, which is amazing if you haven’t heard it yet. And an impromptu version of Through the Ghost, from the Amaryllis album. That was brought on by a fan holding a sign requesting the song.
