Saint Asonia is a super group of sorts that is fronted by former Three Days Grace vocalist, Adam Gontier. The bands is rounded out by guitarist Mike Mushok (formerly of Staind), bassist Cale Gontier (formerly of Art of Dying), and drummer Cody Watkins (also from Art of Dying). These guys may not get the credit they deserve as the band they are with each member being from another band, and the lead singer being the original vocalist of a band that had a ton of hits while he was in the band. But I say you should give them a chance. This is my second time getting to cover them and both times I have been impressed with what I have seen and heard. They are a dynamic band that plays to the crowd and plays very well together.
Most of the crowd knows the background of the band specifically, Adam Gontier’s connection to Three Days Grace, and they are very pleased to hear them play a few favorites from that era. The first one “I Hate Everything About You”, really got the crowd going as they sang it from the top of their lungs. And the next one, “I Don’t Care” got the same reception. Saint Asonia was an opener on this night for Seether and Staind, so the setlist was shorter, clocking in about 30 minutes. I was a little disappointed that they didn’t get a longer set. They really are a great live band and it’s obvious they enjoy the stage.
They ended the set with a song of their first album, “Let Me Live My Life”. A great song to end on. Their last full release was 2019, and an EP in 2022. I look forward to more releases from this group. An eclectic group for sure but it all translates to a great stage show. I’m hoping I get to cover them again.
