It was a great night at the Steelhouse in Omaha as Dogstar took to the stage to a near full house. They had a great opener in The Backfires, a new band out of the New York area. I recommend you check them out if you get the chance.
Dogstar is currently on tour in support of their latest album, All In Now, which was released this past May. It is the bands 4th full length release. Dogstar is made up of Bret Domrose on leqad vocals/guitar, Robert Mailhouse on drums, and Keanu Reeves on bass. One might want to think that with such a famous bass player that this band would be somewhat of a novelty act. I would beg to differ, and if you listen to the bands music, especially the newest release, you will hear a band that is very serious about the music they make and perform.
And the fans realize it too. The are genuinely into the music that Dogstar is releasing and performing. It’s evident by them singing along to each song and enthusiasm that they bring to the show. The setlist was made up on nearly all original music, aside from a cover from The Replacements, Can’t Hardly Wait. They had the crowd up and singing for most of the nearly hour and half set they played. Songs that were highlights for me included Runway, How The Story Ends, and the set closer Breach.
While there was a lot of energy in the Steelhouse that night, it still felt like a lowkey night. Just a band playing their songs to a crowd of fans, that ate every note up. No flashy light show or pyro, just a band cranking out some tunes. And even if your bass player is one of the most famous actors in the world, it can still be a pretty low key vibe for the night.
I highly recommend you check these guys out on tour or give their new album a listen. You won’t be disappointed!
