On a warm August night, Stir Cove in Council Bluffs became the perfect setting for an evening built around rock, reggae, hip-hop and R&B. The “So Glad You Made It” Tour brought together 311, Dirty Heads, Ocean Alley and ROME for a four-act lineup that seemed tailor-made for an outdoor concert venue.

The August 5 stop was especially fitting for 311, the Omaha-born band returning to the area just across the Missouri River. But while 311 and Dirty Heads shared the headlining spotlight, the entire evening felt less like a traditional concert and more like a summer gathering to enjoy music under the open sky.

ROME opened the evening, bringing a reggae-infused sound that established the musical direction for what was to come. Ocean Alley followed, adding its own blend of alternative rock, reggae, with a touch of R&B. The Australian band’s laid-back sound fit naturally into the summer atmosphere, helping build the evening from a relaxed opening into a full-scale concert experience.

Dirty Heads continued that progression with the group’s signature mixture of reggae, rock and hip-hop. Their music has always carried a distinctly California-inspired punch. Songs such as “Lay Me Down” and “Vacation” are practically built for an outdoor summer crowd, and the band’s appearance reinforced why its music connects so naturally with concertgoers looking for an escape from the everyday.

Then came 311.

For a band with deep roots in the Omaha area, the Stir Cove appearance carried an added sense of homecoming. More than three decades into their career, 311 remain remarkably difficult to categorize, drawing from alternative rock, reggae, funk and hip-hop without allowing any one style to define them. That genre-blending identity was a perfect match for a tour shared with Dirty Heads and supported by Ocean Alley and ROME.

For fans who walked away from the venue on Wednesday night, the lasting impression was simple: sometimes the best concerts are the ones that feel less like an event and more like a night spent with thousands of friends.
