Vended came in to Omaha as the first of three acts to create some chaos at The Steelhouse on September 21st. Being from Iowa, Vended has played Omaha and the surrounding area many times and are not strangers to the heavy metal crowd here. They have quite the following and even though they are the opening act, they are a big draw for many here. It makes them a perfect choice for Mudvayne and Static-X to bring on this current tour.

Led by lead vocalist Griffin Taylor, Vended tore through their six song set in what seemed like no time at all. I have been able to see Vended a few other times and feel like they are one of those bands that just keep getting better and better each time out. And I thought they were pretty amazing the first time I saw them. I have seen them play from the small clubs to the mid-size and large arenas. Their confidence and poise has grown a lot since those early days. They know they belong on the big stage and it shows.

I loved hearing them rip through songs like Ded to Me, Am I the Only One, and set closer Asylum. They definitely set the tone for the other bands to follow. The crowd had no chance to catch their breath. The mosh pits opened early and often. I know it should go without saying the connection between Vended and Slipknot. It’s tough to ignore that type of legacy that is there. But Vended has its own identity and fans. I don’t think they use that connection at all to highlight who they are, it might be just people like me who point it out here and there. The did open for then last year on the Here Comes the Pain Tour. I would have loved to see that. But I’ll take a Vended show whenever I get the chance.
