So…it turns out that going to a Whitechapel show is not for the faint of heart. It’s loud, aggressive, and violent. And that is just the crowd. Whitechapel delivered an absolutely relentless performance at The Bourbon Theatre on March 30th, leaving the crowd in awe of their sheer intensity. As one of the most respected bands in modern deathcore, they lived up to their reputation with a set that was both brutal and technically masterful.

From the moment they took the stage, the energy in the venue was electric. Opening with a powerful rendition of Prisoner, the band wasted no time setting the tone for the night. Phil Bozeman’s guttural vocals were as powerful live as they are in the studio, seamlessly shifting from deep growls to haunting melodic sections, particularly on tracks from The Valley, Kin, and the latest release, Hymns of Dissonance, released early last month.

Fan favorites like The Saw is the Law and Possession sparked intense movement in the pit, while more atmospheric tracks like Prostatic showcased the band’s ability to weave melody into their brutality. The crowd responded with nonstop energy, from circle pits to crowd surfing, feeding off the band’s intensity. It’s a sight to behold for sure. This was my first experience with Whitechapel, which I believe put my as a minority in the crowd. I chatted with many in attendance and some where there for 4th or 5th time, and one attendee in particular was seeing them for the 20th time that night. Making a trip from Iowa to make it to this show, impressive indeed.

Whitechapel closed the set with Doom Wood, from the 2019 release The Valley, which sent fans into a frenzy. As the final notes rang out, it was clear that the band had once again proven why they are one of the most dominant forces in heavy music today. They have a solid following and definitely shows up in force. It was an amazing night that made me happy that I remembered my ear plugs. These guys don’t mess around. Catch this tour if you get the chance!
