I first heard about Samantha Fish about 2 years ago, which is slightly embarrassing, being as she is from Kansas City, which is less than an hour from my hometown. She has been touring and recording for well over a decade now, with her first full album release she was a part of came out in 2011. I have been following her casually these past couple of years….and now and jumping on the Samantha Fish bandwagon 100%- diving in headfirst.
Samantha Fish is becoming a force in the touring world, picking up fans wherever she seems to play. It also helps that she was able to get an opening slot for the Rolling Stones this summer. I believe that speaks to the respect she has gained with her fellow musicians these past few years. Not just anyone gets asked to open for the Rolling Stones.
And on August 10th I found out exactly how Samantha Fish earned that spot. She was electric from the opening note. Samantha is an exceptional guitar player and had the crowd on their feet throughout the night with her blend of rock and blues style. She also has an amazing stage presence. She is one of those artists that when they take the stage, they own it, the whole stage.
She portrays that this is where she belongs and this is her domain. We are all invited along for the ride, but it’s her house…and on this night her house was the Bourbon Theater in Lincoln, Nebraska. While her playing can get pretty intense, the smile on her face rarely ever left her face. She obviously loves the stage; she was made to be up there.
A highlight for me was hearing my favorite Samantha Fish song, “Bulletproof”, which she played about halfway through the set. There were lots of great moments, “Wild Heart” also amazing. She had a short acoustic set while the rest of the band took a break. Her voice was really highlighted during those songs. And let me tell you, her voice is top notch. I got to know her because of her guitar playing, but her voice is just as good. And live and in person, had the crowd going crazy.
Catch her now while you can, if you wait too long you may not get to experience her in a theater type setting. At the rate she’s going…the sky is the limit!
