Swedish heavy metal band Sabaton made their way to Omaha, Nebraska as the opening act for Judas Priest. And while we all know that Judas Priest has quite the following no matter where they go, Sabaton definitely has their fair share of fans in attendance on this night. Baxter Arena was super loud for the metal veterans.
This was my first time to get to experience Sabaton live. They definitely did not disappoint. They had an infectious energy throughout their set. And they looked like they were truly having a good time. That was evident from the smiles on their faces and the interactions with the crowd. Lead vocalist, Joakim Broden, even made a comment how impressive it was for the opening act to have such a reception on a weeknight. I think he was selling themselves short by that comment. They are aren’t just any opening act. Sabaton has been around for over two decades and have proven themselves to be as hard working and consistent as any band out there right now. They have a huge following worldwide.
I enjoyed the set from start to finish. I’ve had some say that Sabaton might be an acquired taste, I don’t know if that is entirely true. I mean, if you love heavy metal, then there’s a lot to love about Sabaton. They have the heavy riffs, the anthems, and energy that makes the crowds go crazy. The stage is set by a huge tank drum riser that is a definite attention getter when you see it. Set list highlights The Last Stand, Stormtroopers, Soldier of Heaven, and To Hell and Back. If you are not able to catch them on tour, you are in luck because on October 11th they are releasing a concert film “The Tour to End All Tours”. It will be shown at over 600 cinemas worldwide. I am hoping to be able to find it somewhere and watch it. I think it is a perfect idea for a band like Sabaton, who is as fun visually as they are auditory. If you are not familiar with them, I encourage you to check them out. I believe you will not be disappointed.
