A highlight for me of covering the Sevendust show was getting a chance to see and hear a new band, Return to Dust. They have just released their first full self-titled album. They released an EP last year called The Black Road. They are self-proclaimed to be influenced by alternative and rock icons Alice in Chains, Detones, and Metallica. And after witnessing their set, I believe they have done justice to those claims.

You would think that a newer band being an opener for such rock veterans as 10 Years and Sevendust, they would be nervous and maybe slightly intimidated. If Return to Dust was nervous or intimidated, they did an excellent job of hiding it. They seemed to fit right in and came out swinging from the start. On a night at a sold out Bourbon Theatre, they showed no fear. And I can tell you that the crowd was largely there for the headliners, Return to Dust won over many fans that night.

Return to Dust is made up of Guitarist/Vocalist Matty Bielawski, Bassist/Vocalist Graham Stanush, Lead Guitarist Sebastian Gonzalez, and Drummer London Hudson. If that last name of the drummer sounds familiar to you…and it should, he is the son of a famous guitar player in one of the biggest bands in the world. I’ll leave it at that, and see if you can figure it out. But not to ride on anyone’s coattails, these guys are taking the world on by themselves. They ae taking full advantage of the tour opportunity they are being given right now. I’m still old school when it comes to music and love a good CD or album. I still have an ipod classic that’s my best friend. That being said, go to Spotify or wherever you stream music and check these guys out. Some great songs to get into for sure. I’m a little disappointed I didn’t get a CD from them while at the show. I won’t make that mistake again.
