Prophets of Rage in Nashville, Tennessee on September 27, 2016
Prophets of Rage perform at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee on September 27, 2016, supported by AWOL Nation.
Here we have the Super Group of probably the decade, blending their methods of inciting fans into one highly anticipated show. Combining members from Rage Against the Machine (bassist Tim Commerford, guitarist Tom Morello, and drummer Brad Wilk), Public Enemy (rapper Chuck D and DJ Lord), and rapper B-Real of Cypress Hill, you can only begin to imagine the force and power their music conveys. I had high expectations for this show and it certainly met them. Add a bonus of special guests, Black Keys‘ Dan Auerbach and Cage the Elephant singer Matt Shultz, and you have an amazing night of musicians with almost super-hero status and a crowd that was wild. Just keep using your powers for good, guys! – Christy Carrigg

If you’re already an AWOL Nation fan, you can skip ahead. If not, you would do well to keep reading. I was puzzled as to why AWOL Nation would be chosen as the opener for Prophets of Rage, having only been familiar with their radio play. Once the music started, it became clear; heavy beats and a dark, cosmic kind of feel and almost spastic energy. This quirky recipe yielded a passionate, joyful, yet (oddly enough) very heavy set. They prepped the crowd well for the headliner and left me wanting more. This is a band I will definitely go and see again.
