“We’re in a world where people expect things to be easy – the guitar is not like that” ~ Nita Strauss

It was a Sunday, March 17th, St. Patrick’s Day in Omaha Ne.  How “LUCKY” was I to be allowed to cover Nita Strauss during her Call of the Void Tour. Some of my friends who could not make it were “GREEN” with envy. “IRISH” they could have been here. Getting to see the show in its self would be incredible but “DUBLIN” the fun was being approved to take photos of such a talented “SASSY LASS”. It was as if I was in a dream.  Somebody “PINCH” me. Enough of this, time to get on with the “SHAMROCK-N-ROLL” show.

Starbenders

Hailing from Atlanta GA (GO DAWGS), Starbenders have the swagger, energy and attitude of any rock band out there.  They are punk meets glam and absolutely know how to engage a crowd. Song after song was met with fan reactions that had the place trembling. They kicked things off with “Blood Moon” and immediately the venues intensity skyrocketed. Kimi Shelter’s vocals are commanding.  Much like a drill sergeant, she is in charge on that stage and when she speaks/sings, you listen. The band is always looking for an opportunity to interact with the audience and the audience eagerly responds. It may have been a chilly March evening in Omaha, but the temperature inside the Waiting Room continued to rise as each song lit uncontrollable fires throughout the venue. Be sure to check out their latest offering “Take Back the Night” and if given the opportunity , be sure to check them out live.  It’s honestly an incredible experience.

SET LIST

BLOOD MOON – HOLY MOTHER – BITCHES BE WITCHES – COVER ME – SEVEN WHITE HORSES – BODY TALK – CHERRY WINE – SEX IF YOU NEED IT

Diamante

There is definitely a Joan Jett feel to Diamante, but you would have to add some Crüe to get the entire picture of what her and her band are like musically.  Full of vim and vigor with an immense desire to perform, From “Bite Your Kiss” to “War Cry”, Diamante is a fist pumping dynamo that never seems to tire.  They damn near stole the show with their cover of  “Love is a Battlefield”. Their set was full of catchy riffs and extraordinary musicianship. This is definitely someone you want to see as soon as you can and as many times as you can. In the mean time, please check out her new single 1987.

SET LIST

INTRO – BITE YOUR KISS – HAUNTED  – 1987 – LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD  – COMING IN HOT – AMERICAN DREAM – GHOST MYSELF  – WAR CRY

Nita Strauss

As each member of Nita Strauss’ band struts on stage, the anticipation of her entrance fills the room. Each member looks and acts the part of a purely unadulterated rock band. They were smokin’.  I haven’t seen so much hair flipping since Cannibal Corpse. “Summer Storm” kicked off the set with an intensity that punched the crowd right in the mouth. There was a drum solo at the end of “The Quest” that was as thumping and pounding as any you’ll ever hear. Nita is without question one of the finest guitarist on the planet. She plays fast and clean and uses every millimeter of the fretboard. “Cowboys From Hell” closed out the show and to be honest, I’m not sure I could have taken much more. I was beaten, in a good way, and felt as though I had been in a fight. Nita and her colleagues sure knew how to put on a show.  A show I wanna see over and over again.  But first, I need a nap.

SET LIST

SUMMER STORM – OUR MOST DESPERATE HOUR – MARIANA TRENCH – ALGERIA – LION AMONG WOLVES – THE QUEST (DRUM SOLO) – PANDEMONIUM  – THE WOLF YOU FEED – GOLDEN TRAIL – DIGITAL BULLETS – THROUGH THE NOISE – DEAD INSIDE – VICTORIOUS  – COWBOYS FROM HELL
