Lil Wayne on his 20 Years of Carter Classics tour just rolled through the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Maryland Heights, and since it was only the second night of the run, St. Louis fans got an early look at what’s basically a massive victory lap for one of the most influential names in hip-hop. Having 2 Chainz along for the ride made it even better. It turned the night into a celebration of two guys who have provided the soundtrack for every club for the last decade.
By the time 2 Chainz hit the stage, the place was already filling up fast. He didn’t waste any time, diving straight into crowd-favorites like “No Lie,” “Birthday Song,” and “I’m Different.” The man has so much effortless charisma. He was vibing with the audience between tracks and really set the bar high for the rest of the night.

When Wayne finally stepped out to the sold out crowd, the place absolutely exploded. He kicked things off with “Mr. Carter” and then just went on this incredible run of hits that reminded everyone why he’s been on top for twenty years. Hearing “Fireman,” “A Milli,” and “Lollipop,” were just a reminder of how many tracks of his are universally known in the rap scene.
If I had to pick a peak moment, it was definitely “6 Foot 7 Foot.” The second those chants hit, the amphitheater lost it. It’s one of those songs where you just know what’s coming, and the hype is instant. He did a great job blending those older legendary tracks with newer stuff from Tha Carter VI, so there was something for everyone.

Photographing this show near the sound booth gave me a great perspective on how engaged the fans were throughout the night. This was one of those shows where the crowd’s energy was just as important as the performance itself. Watching the sea of people bouncing in unison and seeing friends with their arms around each other was the perfect reminder of why live music is so special.
For the second stop of the tour, everything felt polished and ready for the long road ahead. Between the high energy 2 Chainz brought and Wayne’s massive setlist, St. Louis got a night that felt like a celebration of legendary rappers. These songs still hit just as hard today as they did when they first blew up the charts.
