Lacuna Coil is one of those bands that I’ve always wanted to see but for whatever reason, it just never seemed to quite work out. Well, my luck finally changed and I was able to check them out. It has been a long tour for Lacuna Coil and this was one of the last of three shows before getting a small break. You would have expected them to appear worn down and road weary this late in the run. But I was pleasantly surprised by the energy they brought to the stage. They did not look like a band winding down a long tour, they looked like a band on opening night.
If you are not familiar with Lacuna Coil, then you should take some time to give them a listen. They are pretty unique in that they have two lead vocalist, Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro. Each having their own unique styles. They are a perfect match for the gothic metal sound. The rest of the band is made up of Marco Coti Zelati on bass, Marco Biazzi on guitar, and Michaelangelo Algardi on drums.
They are currently in tour in support of their latest release, Sleepless Empire. And I have to say, seeing them live for the first time is quite the experience. There is a definite vibe going ion between the music and the look. Being someone who grew up as a huge Kiss fan, I love the visual aspect that they bring to the stage. With make-up and dramatic lighting, it sets the mood for what you are about to experience.
And the music, it is absolutely amazing! It was a long set list that covered both old and new. A few songs that stood out to me were Apocalypse, I Wish You Were Dead, and the set closer Nothing Stands in Our Way. I’m sure the hardcore Lacuna Coil fans probably have their favorite moments too, but those were just a few of mine. These guys have stood the test of time for sure, and if you get a chance to see them, you’ll know why.
