Flipturn listeners gathered at The Tower Theater in Oklahoma City to attend The Burnout Days Tour. This was the last night of the tour that Odie Leigh would be opening for Flipturn and my gosh did she put on a show. If I had to describe Flipturn live in only three words they would be foggy, packed, and colorful. They were AMAZING but at the beginning of their set the fog was so heavy that we could barely see the drummer back there. Also those lights were BRIGHT which I actually prefer to some of the darker sets. A lot of shows I have attended have a set color scheme per song or set, like blues and purples or red. Not the Burnout Days Tour though! Many of their songs were actually accompanied by multicolored lights, I’m talking full rainbow all at once.
Odie Leigh said during her opening set, “Flipturn fans are really cool,” and now I can confirm this is so true. I got to chat with some people before the show started and got to hear about their VIP experience where Flipturn performed an acoustic set for those who bought the VIP passes and they asked about my photography. The Tower Theater does not have isles or public back hallways so I had to push through the VERY dense crowd a few times and everybody was nice about it. Flipturn also knows how cool their fans are as I noticed them interacting with the crowd even during songs.
They kicked off their performance with Juno, Burnout Days, and Inner Wave which are all from their newest album. Songs from their second album like Sad Disco and Space Cowboy were played as well. One thing about Flipturn that I personally love is their album cover art. The Heavy Colors EP cover art is just iconic to me. The OKC crowd was full of energy, headbanging and even getting on each other’s shoulders before the band left the stage. After their fans chanted for them to come back to the stage they wrapped up with some of their biggest hits including Chicago and, of course, August. The next time Flipturn comes to OKC they will most likely be in a larger venue and if that day comes I will for sure be attending again.
