CD Review of Art of Dying’s new CD, Nevermore.

Out of the Great White North comes Art of Dying with their latest EP Nevermore. Formed in 2004 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Art of Dying have been hard at it since day one and it certainly shows with Nevermore. Reminiscent of groups such as Theory of a Deadman and Breaking Benjamin, this album is certainly a guilty pleasure of epic proportions. Strong vocals from front man Jonny Hetherington with great three-part harmonies, powerful riffs, and thought-provoking lyrics that just about anyone can relate to round out this EP.
The album opens up with the hard-hitting track ‘All or Nothing’ and keeps up the pace with ‘Torn Down’ and ‘Nevermore’. With lyrics about love, loss, moving on, and standing up for yourself throughout this album, I am reminded of a couple of motivational quotes that I always keep handy for those times when I’m feeling less than stellar. “When you’re happy you enjoy the music. When you’re sad, you understand the lyrics,” and “Where words fail, music speaks.” The music definitely stands on its own and the lyrical theme throughout this album strikes a heavy chord with me. If you’ve struggled though your life, if you’ve loved, if you’ve lost, if you’ve taken about all the shit you could possibly take, then this is the album for you.
In the seemingly hate-filled climate that surrounds us, Nevermore is a breath of fresh air washing over a toxic landscape.
