The Steelhouse in Omaha was the place to be as Bullet for My Valentine and Trivium showed up on a co-headlining tour each celebrating the 20th anniversary of a classic album from their discography. For the Bullet for My Valentine, it was their debut album The Poison. The Steelhouse, which I believe is one of the premiere venues in Nebraska, was packed, loud, and rowdy. There were four acts on the evening. It started with Bleed From Within and then August Burns Red.
The crowd was more than warmed up when the headliners took the stage. Trivium was a full force to be reckoned with (you can read the review about them to understand). I was a little worried that the crowd may have had the wind knocked out of them and had nothing left for Bullet for My Valentine. I could not have been more wrong. As the opening notes rang out, the crowd hot a fever pitch that made it seem like they had just arrived for the opening act. BFMV had them up and moving in no time.
Starting off with Her Voice Resides and then wasting no time jumping into 4 Words (to choke on). It was then that lead vocalist Mathew Tuck, stopped to address the crowd and give everyone a chance to catch their breath. And then they were off and running again with Tears Don’t Fall. Bullet for My Valentine rocked on through their set focusing on the Poison album but also throwing in some classics. Ending the set with the classic The End.
Bullet for My Valentine sounded as great as they ever have, guitarist Michael Paget, bassist Jamie Mathias, and drummer Jason Bowld kept things running throughout the set. Mathew Tucker sounded amazing not missing a note on vocals. These guys sounded and great and more importantly, they looked like they were having a good time. Soaking up every minute on stage. Knowing that not every band gets to have a 20th anniversary of their debut album. It’s a well-deserved victory lap for these guys. A great night of music celebrating an album that literally started a legacy for these guys. Catch this tour if you can, you will not be disappointed.
