I finally was ablet to cover my first show of the year. The Black Jacket Symphony was a great way to start the year off. If you are not familiar with them, you should take the time to see who they are. They have been around since 2009. They specialize in performing classic rock albums in their entirety, note for note. They are all amazing musicians and do such a good job. This is my first experience seeing them, but I have had several friends who have seen them and have been telling me I need to check them out.

On this night, at the Steelhouse in Omaha, Black Jacket Symphony were playing “The Wall”. The classic Pink Floyd album from 1979. I have always been a fair-weather Pink Floyd fan, but if I could pick album to hear live, it would be “The Wall”. So many classic moments an that album.  From Another Brick in the Wall, Hey You, Is There Anybody Out There, and Comfortably Numb- they were spot on through out the performance. As a music fan, I get a big kick out of watching fans enjoy the music.

The crowd was a little older and there were plenty of people there who knew every word of every song, singing along and reminiscing as they went. It’s fun to watch. I believe that is the power of music, it can instantly transport you back in time and you can lose yourself in the process. That’s what makes the Black Jacket Symphony so awesome. Their job is literally to get people to relive their favorite music each night. “The Wall” is a long album with four vinyl sides, but the way it was performed it seemed to go very quickly. They even threw in a couple encores of other Pink Floyd classics. My favorite being Wish You Were Here. It’s obvious these guys have a big following in Omaha.

I hope I can catch Black Jacket Symphony again when they come back through. Which, has already been announced for October. They will be playing Bon Jovi’s big breakout album “Slippery When Wet”.  Which is drastically different than the Pink Floyd classic they did on this day. I think that speaks to the talent and versatility of the musicians that tour with them. I am hoping to catch that show, you should too! I am sure it will be a great one!
