Dayseeker took over The Pageant in St. Louis for their sold out “The Pale Moonlight Tour”. The lucky 2,000 fans that snagged tickets before the show sold out in just a few days would have an unforgettable night of dreamy, self proclaimed sad boy music. Walking into the packed venue, it was clear this was going to be a special night.
The sace6 duo was first on the bill. After recently releasing their debut album in May, they have been spreading in the alternative scene like wildfire. It’s not often you see half of the venue singing along to the first opener of the night. This solidified their fast come up. Sace’s vocals were impressive live, especially being their first time on tour. They took us through “brutalist”, hitting some of their harder up beat songs, as well as the slow, more emotional songs like “allured”. Their unique sound perfectly started the night.

Wind Walkers was up next, creating a huge shift in the night’s energy. They didn’t waist a beat, opening with “Drowning Hyms” that is the perfect build up song to start the first mosh pits of the night. They focused their set on their hit album “What If I break”, but of course covered plenty from their most recent EP, “I Don’t Belong Here”. It was clear that these guys genuinely loved performing. Their palpable energy flowed through the venue, having everyone jump along to each song, even if this was their first time hearing their work.

NORTHLANE
It was clear everyone was ecstatic for Northlane, the Australian metalcore quartet, to take stage as the final opener. Somehow they brought the energy of the venue even higher. As each band member took their place on stage, the crowd was roaring louder and louder. It was clear there were many long time fans of them in the venue. Opening with “Carbonized” was absolutely perfect, with the heavy guitar riffs and Marcus Bridge’s screams shaking the venue. The circle pits were almost constant through their entire set, but especially during their heavier hits like “Evian” and “Talking Heads”. For these especially, Bridge’s screams were jaw dropping live. He has that guttural sound that sends chills down your spine. The crowd was ecstatic that they covered many hits from their heavier 2022 album, “Obsidian”, throughout the set. One of the coolest parts of their set was watching the keyboardist become a major part of the performance with his glowing eyes during the more electronic breakdowns. They closed their electric set with “Clockwork,” which had the entire crowd at a fever pitch, bouncing and moshing that perfectly proved why it’s such a fan favorite.

DAYSEEKER
By the time Dayseeker was ready to take the stage, the completely packed venue was more energetic than ever, even after their extensive moshing from the opening acts. The lights dropped, screams echoed through the room, and a glowing coffin centerpiece illuminated the stage as the band walked out. When vocalist Rory Rodriguez appeared and “Pale Moonlight” began playing, their dreamy purple lights perfectly shined onto the pit, who were automatically singing every word back at him. It was clear this would be an unforgettable show.

Dayseeker stands out for their live shows by their power to bring their meldaollic slow songs and their heavier pieces with insane breakdowns into one performance, with the crowds energy always reflecting back at the band perfectly. This is something many bands are still trying to perfect, while dayseeker has made it their signature. While some tracks had fans swaying and hugging, others immediately started most pits. It’s one of the reasons they are so fantastic to see live. Rory took a moment before “Homesick” to explain the song being about losing his father after a long battle with cancer and reminded the audience that it is okay to move forward and still allow yourself to be happy. It was one of the most emotional moments of the night and made the connection between the band and crowd feel even stronger.
One of the coolest moments of the night happened when Rory reflected on Dayseeker’s journey as a band. He talked about how they had been performing for fourteen years and remembered playing in St. Louis for only around twelve people back in 2018. Now, standing in front of a sold-out crowd at The Pageant, you could tell how meaningful the moment was for the band.

Another standout moment came when Rory moved to the keyboard for a cover of “The Ghost of You,” by My Chemical Romance that transitioned perfectly into “Forgotten.” They meaning and sound of these two tracks could not have matched more perfectly. During “Bloodlust,” the pit exploded as Marcus Bridge from Northlane joined the band onstage, creating one of the heaviest moments of the show. “Without Me” had the crowd singing so loudly that Rory barely needed to use the microphone, while “Crying While You’re Dancing” filled the room with crowd surfers. Later in the set, the singer of sace6 returned to join the band during “The Living Dead,” bringing the entire lineup together in a memorable way. Once the last notes of “Sleeptalk” rang through the venue and the lights began to fade, these fans weren’t going anywhere until they received a well deserved encore. Completing their set with one of their biggest hits “Neon Grave” was the cherry on top to a perfect set.
Fans decorated in new merchandise shuffled out of the venue with big smiles across their faces, being present for the powerful performances from every opener and Dayseeker’s set. It was clear why “The Pale Moonlight Tour” was almost a completely sold out tour.
