Saturday evening June 28th in Washington, PA, delivered more than just a rock show—it was a moment. As the sun was reflecting out it front of the outdoor stage at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows, a brief rain shower passed through, causing a short delay in Stone Temple Pilots‘ set. But just before the band hit the stage, the skies parted to reveal a full double rainbow—stretching visibly from one end to the other end. The crowd, already buzzing with anticipation, erupted in awe. Phones went up. Cheers broke out. The moment felt cinematic—and it set the tone for the night.
A Legacy That Still Hits Hard
Stone Temple Pilots, founded in 1989, rose to prominence as one of the defining bands of the 1990s alternative rock scene. With a blend of grunge, hard rock, and melodic craftsmanship, they carved out a sound uniquely their own. Their success was no fluke—MTV Music Awards, a Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance, and multi-platinum albums solidified them as giants of their era.
While the band has seen a few changes in lead vocalists over the years, including the tragic loss of iconic frontman Scott Weiland, they’ve always returned with intensity, resilience, and artistry. Through every shift, Stone Temple Pilots has remained one hell of a band—and that was on full display Saturday night.
Heavy Hits and The Crowd Singing
Once they hit the stage, any memory of the weather faded fast. STP ripped into a setlist packed with hits: From the first note, the band sounded tight and energetic. The crowd responded instantly, singing along word-for-word on the biggest tracks. At moments, it felt less like a concert and more like a shared celebration.
The Band: Rock Solid and Recharged
Jeff Gutt (Lead Vocals): Since stepping into the vocalist role in 2017, Jeff has brought a perfect balance of power and respect to the STP catalog. He channels the spirit of the originals while adding his own edge and energy. Saturday night, he commanded the stage with confidence and heart.
Dean DeLeo (Guitar): With his signature riffs and psychedelic textures, Dean’s playing was both forceful and nuanced. His rhythm work remained a vital force throughout the night.
Robert DeLeo (Bass): The glue of the band, Robert delivered warm, muscular bass lines that held every track together. His interplay brought a richness to the songs.
Eric Kretz (Drums): A quiet powerhouse, Kretz anchored the band with tight, driving rhythms. He delivered precision and punch all night.
A Crowd United by Music
It was a strong turnout—people packed into the open-air venue, from lifelong fans to younger listeners discovering the band anew. The audience was fully engaged, erupting in cheers between songs and singing along with every chorus. There was a sense of community in the air, and Stone Temple Pilots fed off the energy and gave it right back.
In a night marked by fleeting rain, a perfect rainbow, and a wall of sound, Stone Temple Pilots proved they’re still a band not to miss. Their decades-long legacy, combined with their current vitality, made for a show that was both nostalgic and electric. Even the sky seemed to know something special was happening. A legendary band, a passionate crowd, and a double rainbow—this was one for the books.
