Trivium is not a band that I have had the pleasure of getting to see yet, until this night in Omaha. The Steelhouse, a great venue, is aptly named for a show like this. Trivium and Bullet For My Valentine co-headlining this tour both celebrating the 20th anniversary of a significant album from their past. It needs a steelhouse to survive the onslaught of head banging, mosh pits, and crowd surfing that happened on this night. It was non-stop intensity from the first acts of Bleed From Within and August Burns Red. Then as the headliners took the stage, it was all out mayhem as Trivium took opened up with Rain and then immediately jumping into Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr.
And then without giving anyone the chance to catch their breath, they ran head first into Drowned and Torn. It was then that lead vocalist/guitarist Matt Heafy addressed the crowd. He didn’t waste a lot of time talking, but he did let the crowd know that they truly appreciated the support and talked about the 20th Anniversary of the Ascendancy album. They know how lucky they are to be playing this long and definitely do not take it for granted being able to tour with such great crowds showing up each night.
As I mentioned before, this was my first Trivium experience. They are one of those bands that just to have seemed to be around forever. One that I never had a chance to see, until now. Let me tell you something, these guys are all out no holds barred for the entire set. I can literally remember thinking, I’m not sure this crowd has anything left to give…and as soon as I had that thought, the wave of body surfers would erupt.
Heafy challenged the Omaha crowd saying that the best crowd they experienced on the tour was in Houston, Texas. He said they were going to have to step up a notch if they wanted to match Houston. He never identified if we were better, but according to the response I saw and heard, if we didn’t beat Houston, we had to be darn close. This is a great tour with four great bands that leave it all on the stage. You don’t want to miss this one.
