It was a great night in LaVista, Nebraska at the Astro Amphitheater with Seether who was up just as the sun had set. This was not my first rodeo with Seether. I knew exactly what to expect. I knew it would be loud, dark, and intense. Seether is a veteran rock act that is very consistent. They get on the stage and take care of business. No messing around from first song to last, just straight out a rock and roll show.
Lead vocalist Shaun Morgan doesn’t spend a lot of time talking to the audience. It’s really all about the music. And while they do have an elaborate light show, it isn’t to highlight the performers in the band, it’s difficult to see them in the dark light. Trust me on this one, as a photographer, they give me a run for my money each time I cover them. The lights are more there to add drama to the performance. It’s part of the intensity of the show.
One thing for sure, you will not be disappointed with what you hear. Seether is as good as it gets as a live band. And they have the catalog the back it up.
Seether is currently on tour for their latest release “The Surface Seems So Far”. There are some great songs on the album, they played one of my favorites from that album, Judas Mind. It’s a great song, I was glad to be able to hear it live. Other highlights from the set list for me were Broken (with acoustic guitar), Gasoline, Country Song, and the set closer Remedy. My personal favorite Seether album is Holding Onto Strings Better Left To Fray. So, it was good to hear Country Song.
There are no surprises when you come to a Seether show. I don’t mean that in a negative way. You are getting exactly what you paid for. A straight forward no nonsense rock and roll show. There is a reason they have been around as long as they have and the crowd on this night was as true blue of Seether fans as you will find. Very satisfying to watch these guys perform. I believe the leg of this tour with Skillet is about over, but fear not, I believe they will be on the road for a while supporting the new album.
