September Mourning performed in Lincoln, Nebraska on July 12th, 2017.

This is not my first time seeing September Mourning and it certainly won’t be my last time. They provide very good music combined with solid production and a story line developed a comic book featuring September Mourning is compelled to tempt fate by harvesting the souls of people who she feels deserve another chance at life. The theatrics of their shows works well with the music, stage, and production.

I have seen September Mourning a number of times in smaller venues with small stages. This was my first trip to Lincoln to see them on a full stage that accommodates the space they needed for their performance. Once thing I have noticed over the past couple of years of knowing this band is that all characters are lined up in front of the stage rather than tucking the drummer behind the band never to be seen. They have accomplished this layout on the small stages, but the big stage at The Bourbon Theater gave them elbow room.

I think that if I had to pick one thing that I feel, as a photographer, that hurts the band is that the “Stitch” (drummer) despite his location is always in the dark. There are times that it is a cool effect, but I like to try and get some great photos of drummers. All of that aside, the focal point is on the vocalist and central character, “September.” I can’t bitch too much about the bulk of September Mourning’s shows as everyone in the band are all solid performers, musicians and artists.

The band includes Emily (September; vocals), Rich (Riven; Guitar), Kyle (Wraith; Guitar), and Josh (Stich; Drums).

Local support included Save the Hero from Omaha.

Faded Black from Lincoln.
